Coras Trailer Manufacturing wants to collect recycling materials at its 410 W. Broadway St. location in Streator.

The Streator Plan Commission recommended the special use permit Tuesday to make it possible.

The special use permit would let the business recycle steel, aluminum and copper, among other items.

“Basically, everything will be put into two separate trailers once they’re brought here,” said Charles Cipalo, a representative from Coras. “What Coras is doing is manufacturing dumping and scrap trailers. They’d have ramps and fill them and take them to Joliet or Chicago.”

Cipalo said there will not be any trucks or cars recycled and there won’t be a crusher on site. There may be a shearer but that wouldn’t be a machine that would cause much in the way of noise to disturb the neighborhood, a representative said.

“This will be in the existing lot,” Cipalo said. “They’re using one building out there for manufacturing. He’s going to blow the doors up and pull a ramp up. Nothing will be out in the lot.”

This petition is scheduled to go up for final approval at the Wednesday, Aug. 21, City Council meeting.
